Customer Review: Tasty, nutritious, make-ahead recipes that please my whole family
I love cooking, but with a husband who usually doesn’t get home until 7:30 and a toddler who is most demanding of my attention right before dinnertime, getting everybody fed was a struggle.
Enter this book.
I love 125 Best Vegetarian Slow Cooker Recipes because:
- The dozen recipes that I’ve tried have all been outstanding. A few of them I would go so far as to categorize as gourmet standard.
- There’s a great introduction with extensive tips on slow cooking.
- I get to cook in the morning, when the baby gives me the most time to cook.
- Half the dinner dishes are done hours before dinner. (i.e. prep dishes, cutting boards, knives, etc.)
- The recipes that I’ve tried have been quite economical to prepare, since whole veggies are cheap. This is especially true now that I have a few key spices in my spice cupboard.
- I feel good about getting more veggies into my family’s diet. We aren’t vegetarian, but we still love these recipes. Sometimes I supplement with grilled sausages, chops, etc.
- My toddler has happily eaten 9/10 of these dishes.
- We’re a family of three. Generally I get two meals out of these recipes, or they’re great for feeding hungry guests.
This is _not_ the book for you if you’re a dump-it-and-go slow cooker. Most recipes involve softening veggies, etc. in a separate sautee pan, which seems to really irritate some folks.
However, if like me, you like to cook, but want to control _when_ you cook, this is a fantastic book. For stay-at-home moms and dads, you’ll get dinner prep out of the way in the morning and have time for your kids and spouse at night. For working folks, there are extensive sidebars explaining how to prep most recipes the night before, so you can come home to a hot meal.
FYI, some of our favorite recipes have been Poached Eggs on Spicy Lentils (substituting hardboiled rather than poached eggs); Sophisticated Mushroom Barley Soup; Savory Cheddar Cheese Soup; and Creamy Leek Soup with Stilton. Have fun!
Customer Review: My favorite slow cooker cook book
I love my slow cookers! I have three of them and have six slow cooker cook books. This one is definitely my favorite. I was a vegetarian for a long time and now that I am eating meat again I still go back to this book for my slow cooker recipes. The recipes often call for some minor sauteing prior to tossing everything in the slow cooker but this prep is quick and truly enhances the flavor of the dishes. This slow cooker book is not just a “toss in all of the processed foods and call it dinner” slow cooker cook book. This cookbook uses real ingredients for inventive, healthy, inexpensive, and savory dishes. A must-buy for a slow cooker and veggie lover! Delicious meals to come home to on those stressful days…everyone should use this book!

Customer Review: Delicious food, easy to prepare - a must-see DVD!
Although I’d eaten tempeh countless times, I’d never cooked with it. I was resigned to viewing this food as another of life’s great mysteries, like Stonehenge or the Electoral College. But my kitchen confidence got a genuine boost after watching Vegetarian Cooking With Compassionate Cooks, co-hosted by Colleen Patrick-Goudreau, who recently penned a wonderful cookbook called The Joy of Vegan Baking: The Compassionate Cooks’ Traditional Treats and Sinful Sweets, and Alka Chandna, a long-time vegan activist. The chefs, both accomplished and knowledgeable vegetarian cooking instructors, combine the delight of a fun cooking class with a generous dose of vegan nutritional information. In no time I’d prepared a delicious tempeh lunch. With an inspiring exuberance and obvious passion for the subject matter, Patrick-Goudreau and Chandna take viewers though six dishes: Eggless Egg Salad, Mouthwatering Chocolate Chip Cookies, Hearty Three-Bean Chili, Tofu and Vegetable Stir-Fry with Peanut Sauce, Harvest-Stuffed Acorn Squash and Magic Chocolate Cake. All the recipes on the DVD are easy to prepare, and they’re all vegan. I tried the chocolate chip cookies, and I have to say they are the tastiest cookies I’ve ever made (indeed, I make them all the time now, and each time I do, someone remarks that “these cookies taste too good to be vegan”). The chefs examine many of the health aspects of a vegan diet - including information on such hot buttons as B12, protein, calcium, omega-3s, and phytochemicals - and encourage viewers to add some lesser-known ingredients to their repertoire (quinoa, anyone?). Special features on the disc include Frequently Asked Questions, which address the most common concerns about vegetarian dining; “Thinking Outside the Crate: Farm Sanctuary’s First 15 Years,” a short piece narrated by James Cromwell; an introduction to meat analogs, dairy substitutes, and other vegan products available in grocery stores; and biographies of Colleen Patrick-Goudreau and Alka Chandna. There are also a couple of bloopers after the final credits. The full-screen presentation is of high quality. This was obviously shot in an actual kitchen, not a sound stage with special set lighting and acoustics, but the visuals are very sharp and the audio is clear. All the recipes can be accessed from the menu screen, and the disc contains a wealth of information. Vegetarian Cooking With Compassionate Cooks is an excellent addition to any vegan or vegetarian kitchen, and it’s a great way to show novices how easy, healthy, and liberating it is to cook without animal ingredients. It may even solve a few mysteries for you. Mark Hawthorne, author of Striking at the Roots: A Practical Guide to Animal Activism
Customer Review: Nicely done and basic
Ok, I’ve seen much better quality in cooking videos, and have seen more rehearsed hosts, but this video does hit the highlights of cooking vegetarian and offers some useful tips along the way.

Customer Review: Goat’s Rue Review
I think this stuff works pretty good. I have PCOS so anything I can use to improve my supply is good. I think you really need to follow the directions to a “t” to get it to work properly though. I still don’t make enough to sustain my child, but every little bits helps.
Customer Review: Works better than Fenugreek
Fenugreek didnt help increase my supply much so at the recommendation of a friend I decided to order Goat’s Rue. Literally within 24 hours, my supply was back up. My baby only nurses at night because I have to work so it helps keeps my supply up so I can continue nursing her at night. I definitely recommend this especially if Fenugreek isnt working.

Customer Review: Finally- a truly all natural skincare line!
I have dealt with skin care issues (adult acne) for years and when I finally started researching ingredients in most of todays drugstore and even highend skincare lines- I was shocked to find out what was in them! Do the research yourself- then look at the so called “natural” products you are using now- many of them contain Parabens and petrochemicals…I found Mychelle line on the internet and have been using them faithfully for a couple of years now- Love the whole line- especially the pumkin renew cream, Vitamin C serum, and the fruit enzyme spray, oh yeah and try the cranberry cleanser as well! Great line- great company- I’m sold! Here at amazon you can get it at 22% discount and free shipping as well.
Customer Review: much cheaper at Whole Foods
Awesome product! I recently read that you should give your face “a rest” at night and not use lotion. It suggested just using an eye cream and toner. This suggestion was extremely hard for me because I’m addicted to face cream (like its the one thing that I would take with me if I was left on a deserted island kinda thing). Anyway, my point is that this toner has neat moisturizing properties in addition to smelling incredible, so I’ve been able to somewhat break my moisturizer at night routine and my skin feels great in the morning. Oh yea, I bought it for $12.69 at Whole Foods.
