The Happiest Baby on the Block: The New Way to Calm Crying and Help Your Newborn Baby Sleep Longer
In perhaps the most important parenting book of the decade, Dr. Harvey Karp reveals an extraordinary treasure sought by parents for centuries –an automatic “off-switch” for their baby’s crying.
No wonder pediatricians across the country are praising him and thousands of Los Angeles parents, from working moms to superstars like Madonna and Pierce Brosnan, have turned to him to learn the secrets for making babies happy.
Never again will parents have to stand by helpless and frazzled while their poor baby cries and cries. Dr. Karp has found there IS a remedy for colic. “I share with parents techniques known only to the most gifted baby soothers throughout history …and I explain exactly how they work.”
In a innovative and thought-provoking reevaluation of early infancy, Dr. Karp blends modern science and ancient wisdom to prove that newborns are not fully ready for the world when they are born. Through his research and experience, he has developed four basic principles that are crucial for understanding babies as well as improving their sleep and soothing their senses:
?The Missing Fourth Trimester: as odd as it may sound, one of the main reasons babies cry is because they are born three months too soon.
?The Calming Reflex: the automatic reset switch to stop crying of any baby in the first few months of life.
?The 5 “S’s”: the simple steps (swaddling, side/stomach position, shushing, swinging and sucking) that trigger the calming reflex. For centuries, parents have tried these methods only to fail because, as with a knee reflex, the calming reflex only works when it is triggered in precisely the right way. Unlike other books that merely list these techniques Dr. Karp teaches parents exactly how to do them, to guide cranky infants to calm and easy babies to serenity in minutes…and help them sleep longer too.
?The Cuddle Cure: the perfect mix the 5 “S’s” that can soothe even the most colicky of infants.
In the book, Dr. Karp also explains:
What is colic?
Why do most babies get much more upset in the evening?
How can a parent calm a baby–in mere minutes?
Can babies be spoiled?
When should a parent of a crying baby call the doctor?
How can a parent get their baby to sleep a few hours longer?
Even the most loving moms and dads sometimes feel pushed to the breaking point by their infant’s persistent cries. Coming to the rescue, however, Dr. Karp places in the hands of parents, grandparents, and all childcare givers the tools they need to be able to calm their babies almost as easily as…turning off a light.

Customer Review: This book made all the difference for us!
Now that we’re expecting #2 and I’m back in the baby section, I happened across the listing for this book and felt compelled to write because this book really had a positive impact on us with our first. I learned early on in my first pregnancy that there is WAY TOO MUCH information out there and if you read long enough (books, blogs, mags, etc) you’ll find both an author who agrees completely with you and an author who is at total odds with you. Sanity came for me when I allowed myself to remember that I am a fairly intelligent person and that I should trust more of my own judgement and instinct - even if this was our first child. Anyway, this book, to me, just made sense. The author talks about a “4th trimester” during which your newborn adjusts to his new surroundings. Compare the environment a newborn leaves when he’s born: a loud, motion filled, warm and very snug home listening to Mom all day long - to what he’s usually delivered in to (especially a first child): a quiet, still, very open environment. How would you react to such a drastic change!
If nothing else, learn the way to properly swaddle - I promise you will be glad you did. And best wishes to your new bundle of joy!!
Customer Review: A must-have for parents!
As a mother with a colicky baby…this book was a blessing. I highly recommend it and will be giving it to all new parents!

Customer Review: Jacket review
It’s currently the middle of winter here in the White Mountains. I purchased this for summer riding, so I haven’t been able to utilize it yey. However, I’ve tried the jacket on and it fits and feels light. Just what I was looking for! I’m very satisfied with the quality. I’ve been searching for one of these, without success, at many of the Harley Davidson stores around the Phoenix area.
Sleeping Beauty (Special Edition)
Disney’s 1959 animated effort was the studio’s most ambitious to date, a widescreen spectacle boasting a gorgeous waltz-filled score adapting Tchaikovsky. In the 14th century, the malevolent Maleficent (not dissimilar to the wicked Queen in Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs) taunts a king that his infant Aurora will fatally prick her finger on a spinning wheel before sundown on her 16th birthday. This, of course, would deny her a happily-ever-after with her true love. Things almost but not quite turn out that way, thanks to the assistance of some bubbly, bumbling fairies named Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. It’s not really all that much about the title character–how interesting can someone in the middle of a long nap be, anyway? Instead, those fairies carry the day, as well as, of course, good Prince Phillip, whose battle with the malevolent Maleficent in the guise of a dragon has been co-opted by any number of animated films since. See it in its original glory here. And Malificent’s castle, filled with warthogs and demonic imps in a macabre dance celebrating their evil ways, manages a certain creepy grandeur. –David Kronke
Customer Review: Not one of my fave Disney films
For some reason, and I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I’m really not into Sleeping Beauty. I adore Disney movies and have seen pretty much every one, with the exception of a couple. This does not rank high on my list. The story never really interested me, the music was just OK. It came as a bit old fashioned for me. That said, It’s certainly not a bad movie by any means, just not as enjoyable as some of the other brilliant ones out there.
Customer Review: Major Rip-Off
The DVD arrived in a timely fashion. However, it was cracked on the bottom of the DVD and was, therefore, unreadable by my DVD player. When I initially complained, I was promised another copy of Sleeping Beauty. Weeks have gone past and I never got the replacement copy. I then contacted both the vendor and Amazon and, now, over a month later — still no replacement and no word. If you want to avoid being ripped off, I would seriously avoid this vendor.

CLIF Kid ZBaR, Variety Pack of Peanut Butter, Chocolate Brownie, and Chocolate Chip, 1.27-Ounce Bars (Pack of 48)
Customer Review: Great for Kids and Adults
Gotta love Clif Kid Bars. This variety pack is a definitely a good bargain and I enjoy all the flavors. They’re not just for kids — adults like em just as much. Wonderful taste and relatively low in calories. Always eat one a day between lunch and dinner as a quick nutritious snack that beats having a candy bar, potato chips, etc.
Customer Review: Healthy, loved and a good value…
I guess the most important thing to start with is - my kids LOVE Z-Bars. They were introduced to these early and as far as they know, this is what granola/snack bars are. They find other, more sugar-laden, bars a little too much. I was pleasantly surprised to find this and am more than happy to ply them with this healthier alternative.
These are a great tasty snack and pretty portable. They only suffer in the hot weather when they get a melty. Otherwise, they hold the kids over from 10AM to lunch on most days. Also, the 140 calories makes them a nice snack for adults too when you’re not up for a 200+ calorie bar.
I guess it’s important to note the price as well. The value is great (especially if you subscribe) for a this amount of bars.
But, I repeat, the kids LOVE them - 5-stars!
